Goals and Planning – Part 1

The old adage, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” hits right at home when it comes to your business, your marketing and, when it comes right down to it, your life.

It’s essential that you have goals, that you create a plan for reaching them, and then that you begin to execute the plan, adjusting as necessary and as you learn and grow along the way.

Without a goal, we can become listless, unmotivated, disinterested and generally start declining. With a goal everything begins to shift. We are powerful beings when we have a goal that is meaningful to us. Incredibly powerful.

If you aren’t feeling on purpose, you don’t know what to focus on or where to begin, it may be because you aren’t connected to your goal. If you don’t have one, you need to get one. If you do have one, and you’re feeling this way, you probably haven’t connected it to something that is a driving factor, a burning desire for you.

Start out by noticing what in your life really moves you? What brings you bliss? What energizes you and excites you so much that you are buzzing? What creates so much emotion in you that it can bring you to tears?

Once you clue into those things, you can begin to relate your goal to engaging whatever those pieces are that truly light you up.

Keep in mind that your goal doesn’t need to be directly tied to those things, so if what really gets your juices flowing doesn’t seem like it can be the foundation of your business, then see how you can use your business to further that goal in a less direct way.

For example, if you are super passionate about helping under-privileged kids, you probably know that you can serve in very significant ways by creating income doing something else (that you also enjoy) and driving profits, spare time and even fund-raising efforts toward that cause.
