Archive for money and beliefs
It occurred to me the other day, as my email inbox swelled to about 495 messages (the oldest just a couple of weeks…) that something interesting was showing itself.
I was reviewing messages, then marking them as ‘unread’ again because I just didn’t want to deal with them at that moment. I get into that kind of head space now and again, and it shows really quickly in a few places, most notably the dreaded pile-up in my inbox.
So, as I was thinking about it, I realized that I was avoiding making decisions. For whatever reason, when I get into that space in my mind, I don’t feel comfortable, or perhaps I don’t feel confident making decisions – even little ones. And honestly, that’s all dealing with email is, making decisions.
As I continued to ponder, I realized that it extends to other areas of my life as well. Clutter comes to mind right away… it’s the same thing, fear of making a decision, of doing something wrong.
Then it hit me. All of that is related to not trusting the Universe (or Source or God, whatever your preference).
So here’s the equation I wrote out:
Clutter = not making decisions = fear of doing it wrong = not trusting the Universe
What do you think?
(P.S. I’m happy to say the inbox is at a manageable 10-12 at the end of the day right now… but that’s the beginning of a slippery slope… )
If you’ve been reading my blog or following me for a little while on social media, you’ll know I’m a subscriber to the concept and beliefs around Law of Attraction.
A few weeks ago I was struggling with a few things, and one of the Abraham-Hicks daily quotes came into my email,
“If man understood that ‘what I create has nothing to do with what anybody else is creating’ then he wouldn’t be so afraid of what other’s are doing.” ~Abraham
That quote really hit home for me, as sometimes I get stuck thinking there’s no room left for me and for my ideas. Sometimes I feel like someone else has already done pretty much everything, so what’s the point?
A few days after that quote hit my inbox, and offered me some relief from those more negative thoughts, I was at an event and won a book. The title of the book? “Steal Like An Artist,” by Austin Kleon. It’s all about how art and creativity are built on top of the art and creativity that came before. Another piece of relief and release for me.
I took those two things, coming so closely behind one another as signs that it’s time for me to let go of those thoughts, they don’t serve me, in fact, they just hold me back.
Are you holding yourself back with these kinds of thoughts too? Time to make a shift.
P.S. – If you are stuck and you are holding yourself back, check out my new Rapid Fire Session™ – we can blow through some of that stuff in the 1 on 1 session, and you’ll walk away with a step-by-step action plan to kick your marketing into high-gear and bring in more clients. Last night I was on the phone with a fellow entrepreneur talking about the big green hairy monster that can sometimes climb on our back and make life feel pretty darn sucky. I’m talking about jealousy.
Jealousy and I have a rough relationship – when I was building my first jewelry business it was so bad that I couldn’t go to big jewelry shows or craft shows because my fears of not being able to compete, feeling like there was no room in the world for me and my jewelry and feeling like I wasn’t good enough – all wrapped up in an ugly, unpleasant feeling in my gut and my head – would make me almost incapable of working for weeks.
It’s much better now. I had to learn to put blinders on and not look at what other people are doing. And, that has helped. If you’re struggling a lot with feeling some similar things, I suggest you do the same – unsubscribe from all those newsletters of people who you see as your ‘competitors’ – or just pick one or two who don’t trigger so much feeling and follow them, training your mind to see their successes as inspiration, proof that it can be done, not evidence that someone else has already done it, so now there’s no place for you.
Ultimately, our conversation turned to how one can use jealously to feed the fire of passion. This friend of mine handles the stuff that comes up for her in the form of jealousy in a pretty effective way. She has shifted her thinking so that when jealousy comes up she recognizes it as an indicator. She looks for the thing there that she wants, if there wasn’t something there that she wanted, she wouldn’t be jealous, right?
You’re not jealous of everyone, only certain people in certain situations… and that means there is information there for you. What is it that you want that you see someone else creating, achieving or having?
Once she figures that out, she makes a list of steps to create that thing in her life. Then she’s get’s on it, and starts taking action to create it.
That’s a healthy way of looking at it, don’t you think? Want to try it out with me?
(Don’t forget to help me out with my Marketing In The Morning™ survey – it’ll only take a moment and I really value your opinion. Thanks!)

It might not be what you think…
There are bunches of things that can interfere with our success and movement forward. If you’re like me, you understand and believe there is a big energy component. And, you know that you have to be taking action – throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what will stick and consistently trying things out, continuing with what works, and changing what doesn’t.
But, what happens when you feel you’ve got all those pieces in place?
You’re taking the actions, it’s imperfect, and you’re good with that…
You feel your energy is in the right place, you’re positive and focused in the right direction…
So, what’s up?
What if it’s something really simple… like not acknowledging the success you are having that’s stopping you from more?
Examine your business, your day-to-day stuff, and see where you could be celebrating what’s going well, appreciating yourself for taking action in the face of resistance and fear, and making space to really acknowledge all that you are doing.
You might just find taking a few minutes each day to write down and then relish and revel in your accomplishments, no matter how small, shifts things and takes you to the next level.
Why aren’t you getting where you want to be in your business?
What You Are Doing Now:
- Dilly-dallying around with your logo
- Constantly (and creatively!) coming up with new names for your business/direction
- Buying more and more URLs (oh, wait, that’s just me… sorry… )
- Chasing after every ‘new & shiny object‘ dangled in front of your face
Do I need to keep going or do you get my drift? (The list really does go on, and on, and on…)
Here’s what you need to be doing…
Avoid Distraction City
Logos, names and URLs – distraction, distraction and distraction – this is one I’ve been super guilty of, I’ve been known to whimper, “But it’s just not quite right” – time for me to kick my own tush just a wee bit and kick yours a little bit too. What to do instead?
Skip the fancy ‘logo’ for now and just pick a simple font and write out the name of your business or product – give yourself some time to figure out the flavor of your biz, THEN invest in the help of someone who knows what the heck they are doing with branding. Get out there and get started – find out who you want to work with, what they want from you and what you enjoy doing – it’ll show itself before too long. (Same thing goes with names and URLs – and if anyone knows of a URL 12 Step program, please send it my way… I’m pretty much a URL Junkie at this point…)
Nail Your Tush To the Floor
As for chasing shiny objects – this can be everything from new mentors, new classes or courses or new tools or software. The best way out of this snake infested swamp land is to pick ONE (yes, just one) person or coach to work with and model – someone you respect, who is further down the path you want to be on and STICK with them like white on rice until you are doing more business and making more money than they are, or at least until you’ve saturated yourself with as much of what they know as you possibly can.
THEN it makes sense to start working with someone else… there are a few exceptions to this – like working with a handful of coaches who specialize in different areas so that you are moving your business and/or life forward on multiple fronts (an example would be someone who specializes in outsourcing so you can build your team, while working with someone who specializes in business development), but this has to be done carefully. Another exception might be if you are in a big group coaching program and find that you need a smaller group or 1:1 support to make the most of that program…
The Bottom Line?
The bottom line is, there will always be something new to learn – and it’s going to look a heck of a lot ‘greener’ on that side of the fence, particularly with master marketers painting their colorful pictures. If you’re feeling drawn to something, take some time, sit quietly with it and you’ll know if it’s right for you.
And, if you find you are hopping around like a mexican jumping bean (which are really beatles… did you know that? I didn’t until a little while ago… but I digress) and you can’t seem to stick with anything long enough to find out if it will work, then get a coach or a friend to tie you down with accountability until you follow through and create some success.
Blinders – they’re not just for horses anymore…
Put some blinders on… the amazing opportunities are so distracting you’re going to need ’em! And, if you are looking for someone who will kick your tush with just the right amount of firm compassion, check out this link – I’m offering a teleseminar on Creating Your Million Dollar Map – it’s an intro to some concepts I’ve found are helping me and my clients create tremendous success.
Oh, and, it’s totally FREE, so you’ve got nothing to loose (except an hour or so of your time, if you don’t learn anything useful… which I’ve heard from people is highly unlikely – doesn’t seem I know how to NOT provide bucket-loads of content), you might learn a few things that can really support you in creating the business you want (and you might just start making some moolah in that business of yours to boot).
