The Coming Revolution

All except one of these pieces were made using 3D printing…

Ok… so, I know I’m supposed to write about marketing, building business and generally getting yourself in order to live a happy and fulfilled life, yes?
Well… there is something I feel I need to share with you, even though it’s not quite all of those things (but it is the last of those things).

There is a REVOLUTION coming.

I predict it will have a bigger impact than the information age revolution.

It may even be bigger than the industrial age… ok, that may be a stretch, but bear with me as I make my case.

This revolution that will touch pretty much EVERY area of our lives, will create a financial boom (and then, as is almost always the case, a bit of a bust after some 10 or 20 years or so…) and throw the world economy into turmoil through dramatic change.

Yup. It will.

What is this revolution you ask?

3D Printing.

I know… it doesn’t sound like it can change the world, but it already is, in ways you can scarcely imagine (unless you’ve been following the news).

What does this have to do with you?

Well… if it helps to know what’s coming down the pike, so you can bone-up and be prepared, then this has everything to do with you.

About 5 years ago, I started learning a 3D software called Rhino. I was learning it to make jewelry (you can see my collection here: www.transformationaljewelry.com). I wanted to create a line of jewelry using inspiring and uplifting words, and I wanted to use fonts because I believe fonts create different emotional experiences as well.

So… I dove in, head first. Believe me, it wasn’t easy. Learning 3D software was a BIG challenge for me – it’s a whole paradigm shift for your brain, but once you’re in it, it is SO INCREDIBLY COOL.

When I saw my first example of a 3D print, I freaked out. I started to realize, even then, how it would change everything, and touch everything. What’s crazy is this technology has been around for decades… it’s just now becoming truly affordable. One day we’ll all have printers in our homes and we’ll be able to print pretty much anything we want!

You know how the information age shifted the music industry? Imagine something that will do that to just about EVERY industry we know. It’s already happening in jewelry, in real estate, medicine (they can already print an organ – AN ORGAN!), machining (cars, engines, airplanes etc) and so much  more. By default it will impact manufacturing the world over (who needs to make 10,000 of something if you can just print it in the next state over and ship on demand?), shipping and so much more.

It’s almost too big to grasp. Actually, it probably is too big to grasp the magnitude of what it will reach and impact.

So… why did I share this with you today?

In part because you need to know it’s coming. In part because it’s something I’m SUPER DUPER EXCITED about. And, in part, because if you can look back and say, “Darn, I should have bought Apple Computer stocks in 1980 and held!” (If you’d invested even a small amount, you might be quite wealthy now – hind sight is 20/20, eh?) then you’ll want to start doing some research. We are there again, at the beginning of HUGE upside potential.

If you are interested in learning more, check out the Motley Fool (www.fool.com) for some stock ideas and recommendations. Of course, you must use your own discretion and I highly recommend doing some research on your own, but we have the unique opportunity to be at the beginning of YET ANOTHER HUGE WAVE in our lifetime. Will you stand by and watch it go by, or will you jump on and start surfing?

Now that you’ve read this, you’ll probably start to notice all the articles showing up about the amazing things people are creating and doing with 3D printing… we’ve gone from an occasional article to having them pop up every day.

If you don’t know what 3D printing is, here is a video showing one type that will help you understand the concept. Poke around – you’ll find a ton more videos on it. It’s worth beginning to understand.

And, here are a few great articles on just a small number of the really neat things already happening:
